Triangle of Health: Nutrition
from www.todayshealthcounselor.com
Nutrition is the key to losing weight and gaining weight. It is the key to maintaining your weight. It is the key to a healthy body. You can lose weight by diet alone, but you'll be much happier with your shape if you exercise. It also makes the process easier.
Nutrition includes the foods you eat, the liquids you drink, and the supplements you take. Some people prefer to not take supplements and just eat healthy. For those of you who take this route, be sure to include the necessary amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fats. A vegetarian diet can be particularly difficult to get the necessary protein you need, and requires quite a bit of thought and discipline to manage it successfully.
In today's busy world, supplements can be quite helpful to get the nutrients we need. They can help us to live our life to the fullest potential we have. Many of us do not get the nutrients we need in our diets, and supplements can fill in the gaps. Some basic supplements that almost everyone can benefit from include a multivitamin, fish oil and protein powders. Guys tend to be heavy in protein in their diets, where as ladies are better at eating fruits and vegetables. Of course, there are people of both sexes that eat a balanced diet, but we tend to be in the minority!
Protein is essential for building muscle, and carbs are helpful to synthesize the protein (turn it into muscle). To build muscle and stay lean, you need a high protein diet with only the healthy carbs and healthy fats. In today's world, with all the tasty junk food, and our busy lives, this requires a lot of discipline. It's actually easier to build muscle if you're not worried about your waistline. Lots of protein and carbs, don't get too crazy with the fats, but they're not particularly worried about them either. This is the typical bodybuilder's approach to building muscle, and then they focus on losing weight to get cut for the pool or a contest. To build the kind of muscle necessary to win contests requires at least a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, and many do more. They are also are hitting the heavy weights intensely.
